Austin A60 Cambridge

The Austin A60 Cambridge was introduced in 1961 as the successor to the A55 Cambridge Mk II. It featured a more powerful engine, improved styling, and better overall refinement while retaining the Pininfarina-designed bodywork that had become a hallmark of the Cambridge series.

Under the bonnet, the A60 was powered by an upgraded 1.6-liter B-Series engine, producing 61 horsepower. This provided improved performance over its predecessor, with a top speed of around 80 mph. It was available with a four-speed manual gearbox as standard, with an optional overdrive or automatic transmission for added convenience. The suspension setup remained similar, with independent front suspension and a live rear axle, ensuring a smooth and comfortable ride.

Visually, the A60 had subtle updates compared to the A55 Mk II, including a revised front grille, new rear light clusters, and slightly larger tail fins. The interior was also refined, featuring more comfortable seating and an improved dashboard layout.

A practical estate version, known as the A60 Cambridge Countryman, was also available, offering increased cargo capacity and versatility for families and businesses.

The A60 Cambridge remained in production until 1969, by which time it had become one of Austin’s most popular family saloons. Today, it is appreciated as a dependable and stylish British classic, known for its solid engineering and comfortable ride.
