Kalle Rovanperä
Early Life and Background
Kalle Rovanperä was born on October 1, 2000, in Jyväskylä, Finland—a city renowned for its rich rally heritage. As the son of former World Rally Championship (WRC) driver Harri Rovanperä, Kalle was immersed in the world of motorsport from an early age. His prodigious talent became evident when, at just eight years old, videos of him expertly drifting rally cars through snowy Finnish forests went viral, showcasing his innate driving skills.
Early Rallying Career
Due to age restrictions in Finland, Kalle began his competitive rallying career in Latvia, where regulations allowed younger drivers to participate. At 12, he started competing in rally sprints, and by 15, he clinched the Latvian R2 championship. The following year, he advanced to the more powerful Škoda Fabia R5 and became the youngest-ever national rally champion, retaining the title in 2017. That same year, he also competed in the Italian and Finnish Championships, securing victories in both. On October 2, 2017, a day after his 17th birthday, Kalle passed his driving test, allowing him to compete globally. Shortly thereafter, he made his WRC2 debut with M-Sport at Rally GB, finishing 10th, and won the WRC2 category in Australia, becoming the youngest driver to do so.
Rise in the World Rally Championship
In 2018, Rovanperä joined Škoda Motorsport, competing in the WRC2 category. His impressive performances led to a full-time seat with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT in 2020. In his debut season, he secured a podium finish in only his second race. The following year, he made history by winning the 2021 Rally Estonia, becoming the youngest driver to win a WRC event at 20 years, 9 months, and 17 days.
World Championships and Records
Rovanperä’s career reached new heights in 2022 when he clinched the WRC title at the Rally New Zealand, just a day after his 22nd birthday, making him the youngest-ever WRC World Champion. He surpassed the previous record held by Colin McRae, who won the championship at 27. Kalle’s 2022 season was marked by six victories and consistent podium finishes.
He continued his dominance in 2023, securing a second consecutive WRC title with three wins and six podiums, amassing 217 points.
Recent Performances and Diversification
In 2024, Rovanperä showcased his versatility by winning the inaugural Rally Latvia, leading from start to finish. He also stepped in as a last-minute replacement at Rally Poland, securing victory despite limited preparation.
Beyond rallying, Kalle expanded his motorsport repertoire by participating in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux and making his endurance racing debut at the 2025 Dubai 24 Hours with Huber Racing in a Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Outside the rally stages, Rovanperä is known for his passion for Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) vehicles, owning both a Mk5 Toyota Supra J29 and a Mk4 Supra A80. His interests also extend to drifting, where he has competed in various events, showcasing his diverse driving skills.
