Description
The Alfa Romeo 33 1.7 IE was a sporty compact car produced by Alfa Romeo as part of the Alfa Romeo 33 lineup. It was manufactured in the late 1980s and early 1990s and is known for its distinctive design and engaging driving dynamics.
The car featured a 1.7-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine with fuel injection, producing around 107 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. It came with a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive, allowing it to reach a top speed of approximately 195 km/h with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 9.8 seconds. Weighing around 980 kg, the car offered a lightweight and agile driving experience.
The 33 1.7 IE retained the characteristic boxer engine layout, which provided a low center of gravity and improved handling. Its hatchback body featured an aerodynamic design with a driver-focused interior that blended Italian style with practicality. Compared to earlier carbureted models, the fuel injection system improved efficiency and emissions.
The lightweight chassis and rev-happy boxer engine made the 33 1.7 IE a fun car to drive. It had sharp steering and an engaging road feel, making it popular among Alfa Romeo enthusiasts. However, like many 1980s and 1990s Alfa models, rust and electrical issues were common concerns.
The Alfa Romeo 33 was eventually replaced by the Alfa Romeo 145 and 146 in the mid-1990s. Today, well-maintained examples of the 1.7 IE are appreciated by collectors and Alfa fans for their unique character.
