Description
The Alfa Romeo 33 16V Imola Q4 was a special all-wheel-drive variant of the Alfa Romeo 33, produced in the early 1990s. It was based on the 33 1.7 16V but featured Alfa’s Q4 (Quadrifoglio 4) all-wheel-drive system, enhancing traction and handling. This made it one of the most capable and dynamic versions of the 33 series.
Power came from a 1.7-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine with 16 valves, producing around 132 hp at 6,500 rpm and 149 Nm of torque at 4,500 rpm. This allowed the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in about 8.5 seconds, reaching a top speed of approximately 205 km/h. The permanent AWD system was derived from the one used in the Alfa Romeo 33 4×4, offering improved grip and stability, especially in wet or slippery conditions.
The Imola Q4 featured sportier styling elements, including a more aggressive body kit, special alloy wheels, and unique badging. The interior was equipped with sport seats, a leather steering wheel, and additional sporty details, reflecting Alfa Romeo’s racing DNA.
On the road, the Q4 system enhanced cornering ability, making the 33 Imola Q4 feel more planted and capable than its FWD counterparts. The boxer engine provided a distinctive sound and engaging power delivery, adding to the driving experience. However, as with many Alfa Romeo models of this era, rust and electrical issues were common, making well-preserved examples rare today.
The Alfa Romeo 33 16V Imola Q4 remains a sought-after model among enthusiasts due to its rarity, all-wheel-drive capability, and connection to Alfa’s motorsport heritage.
