Description
The Alfa Romeo 33 16V Imola was a special edition of the Alfa Romeo 33, produced in the early 1990s. It was based on the 33 1.7 16V and was designed to offer a sportier and more exclusive variant of the standard model.
Under the hood, the 33 16V Imola featured a 1.7-liter Boxer 4-cylinder engine with 16 valves, producing around 132 horsepower at 6,500 rpm. This power output allowed it to reach a top speed of approximately 205 km/h, with a 0 to 100 km/h acceleration time of about 8.5 seconds. The combination of the lightweight chassis and front-wheel-drive layout made it an agile and responsive car to drive.
The Imola edition distinguished itself with unique styling touches, including special badging, sportier alloy wheels, and a more aggressive body kit. The interior was also upgraded with sport seats, additional trim details, and a driver-focused layout that emphasized Alfa Romeo’s racing heritage.
As with many Alfa Romeos of its time, the 33 16V Imola was praised for its engaging driving dynamics, thanks to the boxer engine’s distinctive sound and the car’s well-balanced handling. However, it was also known for common issues such as rust and electrical problems, which require careful maintenance for preservation today.
The 33 16V Imola remains a sought-after model among Alfa Romeo enthusiasts, representing one of the last truly raw and characterful Alfa hatchbacks before the brand moved towards more modern designs with the Alfa 145 and 146.
