Description
The Alpine Renault A110 1300 GT4 was a unique variant of the A110, designed as a more practical and slightly larger version of the iconic lightweight sports car. Unlike the standard A110 models, the GT4 featured a longer wheelbase and a 2+2 seating arrangement, making it one of the few Alpine models to accommodate rear passengers.
Powered by a 1,289 cc inline-four engine, the 1300 GT4 produced around 103 horsepower, delivering a lively performance thanks to the car’s lightweight fiberglass body. The rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout provided excellent handling, while a four- or five-speed manual gearbox allowed for precise gear changes. Despite its slightly increased dimensions, the GT4 maintained the agile and responsive driving dynamics that made the A110 famous.
The suspension setup remained true to Alpine’s racing heritage, featuring independent suspension on all four wheels for improved stability and cornering ability. The braking system included disc brakes, ensuring adequate stopping power for the car’s performance capabilities.
Visually, the A110 1300 GT4 retained the signature curvaceous design of the A110 but with a slightly elongated profile to accommodate the additional seating. The bodywork was made of lightweight fiberglass, helping to keep the overall weight low. Inside, the GT4 featured a more spacious cabin with an extended roofline, though the rear seats remained small and best suited for occasional use.
While not as widely recognized as the standard A110 models, the Alpine Renault A110 1300 GT4 remains an interesting and rare version of the legendary French sports car. Its blend of practicality, performance, and lightweight design makes it a unique collector’s item among Alpine enthusiasts.
