Alpine Renault A110 1300 Rallye

Category:

Description

The Alpine Renault A110 1300 Rallye was a competition-focused variant of the A110, designed for rallying and motorsport success in the late 1960s and early 1970s. It combined the lightweight fiberglass body and rear-engine layout of the standard A110 with a more powerful engine and performance upgrades to enhance handling and durability on demanding rally stages.

Powered by a 1.3-liter inline-four engine sourced from the Renault 8 Gordini, the A110 1300 Rallye produced around 110 to 120 horsepower, depending on tuning. This power was delivered to the rear wheels through a close-ratio four- or five-speed manual transmission, providing rapid acceleration and precise control. The car’s low weight, typically under 700 kg, contributed to its exceptional agility and responsiveness.

The aerodynamic coupe body retained Alpine’s signature round headlights and low-slung profile, optimized for high-speed stability. Suspension modifications, reinforced chassis components, and improved braking systems made the 1300 Rallye more capable in competition, allowing it to handle rough terrain and tight corners with precision.

As part of the A110 lineup, the 1300 Rallye played a significant role in establishing Alpine’s dominance in rally racing, paving the way for later, more powerful versions that would lead to major victories, including in the World Rally Championship. It was particularly effective on winding mountain roads, where its lightweight construction and superior handling gave it an edge over larger, more powerful competitors.

Today, the Alpine Renault A110 1300 Rallye is a rare and highly collectible classic, valued for its motorsport heritage and exhilarating driving dynamics. Enthusiasts and collectors seek well-preserved examples, recognizing their importance in Alpine’s racing history and their role in shaping the legend of the A110.
