Description

The Alpine Renault A110 1600 SC was one of the later and more refined versions of the legendary A110, produced in the mid-to-late 1970s. It retained the lightweight fiberglass body, rear-engine layout, and rally-proven handling characteristics that made the A110 a dominant force in motorsport while featuring improvements in power and drivability.

Powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine, the A110 1600 SC produced approximately 127 horsepower. This engine, derived from the Renault 16 TS, was paired with a five-speed manual transmission, delivering lively acceleration and a top speed exceeding 200 km/h. Weighing around 725 kg, the car maintained an excellent power-to-weight ratio, ensuring sharp responsiveness and engaging performance.

The 1600 SC kept the classic A110 design, with its distinctive round headlights, aerodynamic curves, and compact proportions. It featured an independent suspension system that provided exceptional cornering ability, while its rear-engine configuration contributed to strong traction, particularly on winding roads and rally stages. Some versions also received upgraded braking systems and minor chassis reinforcements to improve stability and control.

As one of the final iterations of the A110, the 1600 SC represented the peak of the model’s road-going development before the introduction of its successor, the Alpine A310. While it was not as widely used in competition as earlier A110 variants, it remained a highly capable sports car with a strong connection to Alpine’s rally heritage.

Today, the Alpine Renault A110 1600 SC is a highly sought-after classic, prized for its combination of performance, racing pedigree, and timeless design. It remains an iconic symbol of Alpine’s engineering excellence and motorsport success.
