Description

The Alpine Renault A110 1600 SX was one of the final production variants of the legendary A110, introduced in the late 1970s as a more refined and road-focused version. While earlier A110 models were developed with motorsport in mind, the 1600 SX was designed primarily for street use, offering a balance between performance and everyday drivability.

Powered by a 1.6-liter inline-four engine sourced from the Renault 16 TX, the A110 1600 SX produced around 95 horsepower. It was paired with a five-speed manual transmission, providing smooth power delivery and respectable acceleration. Although it had less power than some of the competition-focused A110 variants, its lightweight fiberglass body, weighing approximately 725 kg, still ensured nimble handling and an engaging driving experience.

The design remained true to the classic A110 aesthetic, featuring the signature round headlights, curvaceous bodywork, and compact dimensions. However, the 1600 SX included subtle refinements such as improved interior comfort and updated trim details to make it more suitable for everyday use. The independent suspension system, rear-engine layout, and well-balanced chassis continued to provide the precise handling and cornering ability that made the A110 famous.

As one of the last iterations of the A110 before production ended in 1977, the 1600 SX marked the end of an era for Alpine’s original rally legend. It was succeeded by the Alpine A310, which took the brand in a more modern direction.

Today, the Alpine Renault A110 1600 SX is a rare and collectible classic, valued for its heritage, elegant design, and engaging driving dynamics. It remains a symbol of Alpine’s commitment to lightweight performance and innovative engineering.
