Description

The Alpine Renault A310 1600 VF was an early variant of the A310, introduced in the early 1970s as a more refined and modern successor to the legendary A110. Designed to offer a balance between performance and everyday usability, the A310 retained Alpine’s lightweight construction while featuring a more angular and aerodynamic design.

Powered by a 1,605 cc inline-four engine sourced from the Renault 16 TS, the A310 1600 VF produced approximately 127 horsepower. The engine was paired with a five-speed manual transmission, delivering smooth power and responsive acceleration. With its low weight and aerodynamic body, the car offered strong performance, capable of reaching speeds over 200 km/h.

The A310 1600 VF was built on a tubular steel chassis, providing excellent rigidity while keeping weight to a minimum. Its independent suspension setup, with double wishbones at both the front and rear, allowed for precise handling and agility. Disc brakes on all four wheels ensured reliable stopping power, making it well-suited for spirited driving.

The exterior of the A310 1600 VF was defined by its wedge-shaped profile, pop-up headlights, and a large rear glass panel, giving it a futuristic look. Inside, the cabin was more spacious and comfortable than its predecessor, featuring improved seats, a redesigned dashboard, and a more refined layout suited for long-distance touring.

While the A310 1600 VF was not as dominant in motorsport as the earlier A110, it played a crucial role in Alpine’s evolution, marking a transition toward more road-oriented sports cars. Today, it remains a highly desirable classic, appreciated for its unique styling, lightweight design, and engaging driving dynamics.
