The Austin 10/4 Lichfield Saloon was introduced in 1934 as an updated version of the standard Austin 10, offering improved styling and enhanced comfort. It was named after the city of Lichfield and was part of Austin’s effort to modernize its lineup while maintaining the practicality and affordability that had made the Austin 10 so popular.
The Lichfield Saloon retained the 1125cc four-cylinder side-valve engine, producing around 21 horsepower. This provided steady and reliable performance, with a top speed of approximately 50 mph. The four-speed manual gearbox allowed for smoother gear changes compared to earlier Austin models, making it easier to drive.
