Description
The Austin A110 Westminster Overdrive Mk II was introduced in 1964 as the final and most refined version of the Westminster series. It was a continuation of the A99 and A110 models, offering improved performance, comfort, and subtle styling updates.
Powered by the 2.9-liter (2912 cc) C-Series inline-six engine, the A110 produced around 120 horsepower, providing smooth and effortless performance. The overdrive feature, available on the four-speed manual transmission, enhanced long-distance cruising by reducing engine revs at higher speeds. A Borg-Warner automatic transmission was also available as an option for buyers seeking greater convenience.
Visually, the Mk II retained the Pininfarina-designed body of its predecessor but featured minor refinements, including a revised front grille and improved lighting. The longer wheelbase, introduced with the original A110, ensured better rear passenger comfort. The spacious interior was trimmed with high-quality materials, including wood veneer and premium upholstery, giving it a luxurious and refined feel.
The suspension system was designed for a smooth ride, with independent front suspension and leaf springs at the rear. Braking was enhanced with servo-assisted front disc brakes, improving stopping power compared to earlier models.
The A110 Westminster Overdrive Mk II remained in production until 1968, after which it was effectively replaced by the Austin 3-Litre. Today, it is appreciated as a classic example of British executive motoring, offering a blend of style, performance, and comfort.
