Description
The Austin A125 Sheerline was a full-size luxury car produced by Austin from 1947 to 1954. It was the more powerful and prestigious version of the A110 Sheerline, designed to compete with British luxury brands such as Daimler, Humber, and Rolls-Royce. With its stately presence, elegant styling, and high-quality craftsmanship, the A125 Sheerline became a popular choice for official and ceremonial use, including chauffeur-driven service.
Under the bonnet, the A125 was powered by a 4.0-liter (3995 cc) inline-six engine, producing around 125 horsepower. This provided smooth and refined performance, making it well-suited for long-distance cruising. The engine was paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, with synchromesh on the upper gears for smoother shifting.
The design of the A125 Sheerline featured a large chrome grille, sweeping front fenders, and an imposing, upright stance. Its spacious interior was trimmed with luxurious materials, including leather upholstery, wood veneer, and thick carpeting. The car’s generous dimensions provided ample legroom for passengers, making it ideal for formal occasions.
The A125 Sheerline was available in both saloon and limousine variants, with the limousine model featuring an extended wheelbase for even greater passenger comfort. Many of these limousines were used by dignitaries, government officials, and as wedding or ceremonial vehicles.
Production of the Austin A125 Sheerline continued until 1954, when it was replaced by the Austin A135 Princess. Today, it remains a rare and desirable classic, appreciated for its combination of luxury, elegance, and traditional British craftsmanship.
