Description
The Austin A60 Cambridge Countryman was the estate version of the A60 Cambridge saloon, introduced in 1961. It was designed for those needing extra cargo space while retaining the comfort and practicality of the saloon model. Like the standard A60, the Countryman featured the same Pininfarina-styled bodywork, with an extended rear section and a large tailgate for easy access to the spacious load area.
Power came from a 1.6-liter B-Series engine producing 61 horsepower, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. An overdrive option was available, as well as an automatic transmission for added convenience. The suspension setup, with independent front suspension and a live rear axle, ensured a comfortable ride even when carrying heavy loads.
Inside, the Countryman featured a practical yet comfortable cabin, with split-folding rear seats to maximize cargo capacity. The estate design made it a popular choice for families, businesses, and tradespeople who needed a versatile vehicle.
The Austin A60 Cambridge Countryman remained in production until 1969, when it was replaced by the Austin Maxi and other British Leyland models. Today, it is a sought-after classic, appreciated for its blend of practicality, elegant styling, and dependable engineering.
