Description
The Austin Seven Ulster was a high-performance, lightweight sports variant of the famous Austin Seven, produced in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Named after the Ulster Tourist Trophy races, where Austin Sevens had achieved significant success, this model was designed for competition and spirited driving.
The Ulster featured a tuned version of the standard 747cc four-cylinder engine, often fitted with a high-compression cylinder head and, in some cases, a supercharger to boost performance. With a lightweight aluminum body and a stripped-down design, it had an excellent power-to-weight ratio, making it quick for its time. The car’s low-slung stance, cycle-style mudguards, and distinctive boat-tail rear end gave it a purposeful and sporty appearance.
Widely used in club racing and trials events, the Austin Seven Ulster became a favorite among private racers due to its affordability and reliability. It played a crucial role in Austin’s motorsport legacy and helped establish the Seven as a versatile platform for both road and competition use. Today, the Ulster is highly sought after by collectors and vintage racing enthusiasts, celebrated for its performance heritage and classic charm.
