Description
The Autobianchi Bianchina Berlina 4 Posti was introduced in 1962 as a practical and stylish evolution of the earlier Bianchina models. Based on the Fiat 500 platform, it retained the microcar proportions but offered a slightly more spacious and refined body with full seating for four people—hence the “4 Posti” name.
This version featured a fixed steel roof, unlike the Transformabile’s folding top, giving it a more conventional sedan silhouette. It had two doors and a rear-hinged “suicide” door setup, with charming rounded lines, chrome accents, and bright colors that gave it a cheerful presence on the road. Despite its diminutive size, it managed to pack a decent amount of room for city commuting, especially for families or urban drivers looking for a compact but complete vehicle.
Under the rear hood, the Berlina 4 Posti housed the same Fiat-sourced air-cooled two-cylinder engine—typically the 499 cc variant producing around 17 horsepower—paired with a four-speed manual transmission. While not a powerhouse, it was lively enough for city traffic and efficient to run and maintain.
Loved for its combination of economy, elegance, and functionality, the Bianchina Berlina 4 Posti became one of the most popular models in the Autobianchi lineup. It remains a cult classic among microcar enthusiasts and collectors, embodying Italy’s post-war automotive ingenuity and flair.
