Description
The Autobianchi Bianchina Panoramica was the estate or station wagon variant of the Bianchina family, introduced in the late 1950s as a practical alternative to the more compact Berlina and Transformabile versions. Built on the same platform as the Fiat 500, the Panoramica offered greater versatility and interior space while retaining the stylish, curvy lines that defined the Bianchina’s charm.
With its tall roofline and elongated rear, the Panoramica could accommodate four passengers more comfortably and offered increased luggage capacity—ideal for small families or those needing a bit more room for shopping, travel, or work-related errands. The rear hatch design made loading easier, and the folding rear seat allowed for more flexible cargo use.
Mechanically, it featured the same rear-mounted, air-cooled 499 cc twin-cylinder engine found in its siblings. Though not a powerhouse, the lightweight build and compact dimensions meant the Panoramica handled city streets and narrow roads with ease. Top speed hovered around 85–95 km/h (depending on the specific model year and tuning), making it well-suited for urban and suburban driving.
Inside, the Panoramica was simple but stylish, with a clean dashboard, basic instrumentation, and a friendly ambiance. Like all Bianchinas, it was available in a variety of cheerful two-tone paint schemes and often sported chrome accents that gave it a slightly upmarket feel despite its utilitarian role.
Today, the Bianchina Panoramica is appreciated not just as a quirky little station wagon but as a symbol of postwar Italian optimism and ingenuity, blending practicality with undeniable character.
