Bentley Brooklands R

Category:

Description

The Bentley Brooklands R was a refined evolution of the original Brooklands, introduced in the mid-1990s as a more performance-oriented luxury saloon. Building upon the elegant and stately foundation of the standard Brooklands, the R variant added a welcome dose of power and dynamism, targeting buyers who wanted a more engaging driving experience without compromising the signature Bentley comfort and craftsmanship.

Under the bonnet, the Brooklands R retained the venerable 6.75-litre V8 engine, but unlike the naturally aspirated version in the base Brooklands, the R was equipped with a light-pressure turbocharger. This upgrade significantly improved torque and overall performance, allowing the car to deliver strong acceleration and effortless cruising at higher speeds. Though not as aggressively tuned as the Turbo R, the Brooklands R provided a compelling balance of power and refinement, ideal for long-distance grand touring.

Visually, the Brooklands R maintained the same dignified presence, with its large chrome grille, twin headlamps, and classic three-box shape. However, subtle visual cues such as revised alloy wheels, discreet badging, and a slightly lower stance hinted at its enhanced capabilities. The suspension was also uprated for better handling, giving the car a firmer but still composed ride compared to the standard Brooklands.

Inside, the Brooklands R featured the same exquisite attention to detail Bentley was renowned for. Hand-stitched leather upholstery, polished walnut veneers, deep pile carpets, and traditional chrome accents created a cabin that was both luxurious and inviting. As with all Bentleys of the era, customization options were extensive, allowing owners to tailor the interior to their tastes.

The Brooklands R bridged the gap between the luxurious calm of the standard Brooklands and the sporty, aggressive personality of the Turbo R. It appealed to discerning drivers who wanted a discreet, high-performance luxury car with a timeless design and an old-school sense of prestige. Though produced in limited numbers, the Brooklands R remains a respected and desirable classic among Bentley aficionados.
