Description
The Bentley Continental SC (Sedanca Coupé) was a rare and distinctive variant of the Continental R, produced in limited numbers between 1999 and 2000. The “SC” designation referred to its unique Sedanca de Ville-style removable roof panels above the front seats, a nod to classic grand tourers from the pre-war era. This allowed for an open-air driving experience without sacrificing the structural rigidity or elegance of a fixed-roof coupé.
Based on the high-performance Continental T, the SC shared the same shortened wheelbase and uprated 6.75-litre turbocharged V8 engine, delivering approximately 420 horsepower and a massive 650 lb-ft of torque. This gave the car impressive acceleration for its size, effortlessly propelling the SC from 0 to 60 mph in just over 6 seconds. The engine’s immense low-end power and smooth delivery made it ideal for high-speed cruising and grand touring.
Visually, the SC carried the muscular and assertive styling of the Continental T, including flared wheel arches, a lower stance, and more aggressive front and rear treatments. The removable roof panels were cleverly stowed in the trunk when not in use, preserving the car’s sleek profile. Inside, the SC featured the finest materials Bentley had to offer: Connolly leather, burr walnut veneers, and turned aluminum accents. The cabin layout was both driver-focused and sumptuously appointed, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern luxury.
Only a limited number of Continental SCs were produced—fewer than 80 units worldwide—making it one of the rarest post-war Bentleys. A small number of Mulliner-enhanced versions featured bespoke detailing and even higher levels of personalization. The Continental SC appealed to collectors and enthusiasts who wanted exclusivity, performance, and a connection to Bentley’s storied past. Today, it remains a highly sought-after example of Bentley’s craftsmanship during the marque’s final years of independence before being acquired by Volkswagen.
