Description

The Bitter SC Sedan, produced from 1981 to 1989, was the four-door version of the Bitter SC series. Known for its elegant and understated design, the SC Sedan was part of Erich Bitter’s vision of creating a high-end luxury vehicle that blended German engineering with Italian-inspired aesthetics. The car shared many mechanical components with the Opel Senator, particularly its chassis and drivetrain, but featured unique styling and a more exclusive, upscale presentation.

Under the hood, the SC Sedan was powered by a range of inline-six engines. Early models were equipped with a 3.0-liter engine that produced around 180 horsepower. Later models offered a 3.9-liter version, which increased output to around 210 horsepower. These engines were paired with either a 3-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission. Although the SC Sedan wasn’t focused on high performance, it delivered solid, dependable power suitable for a luxury grand tourer.

The car’s interior reflected its premium positioning. It featured high-quality materials like leather and wood trim, along with advanced features for the time, including electric windows and air conditioning. The focus was on comfort and refinement, making the SC Sedan ideal for long-distance driving and appealing to buyers who valued exclusivity and luxury.

Production numbers for the SC Sedan were limited, with only a small number of units produced over its eight-year run. This rarity, combined with its unique design and blend of German and Italian influences, has made the SC Sedan a sought-after collector’s item today. It stands out as a symbol of Bitter’s ambition to create a distinctive luxury car that could compete with the likes of Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar in the high-end automotive market.
