Bond 875 Mk II

Category:

Description

The Bond 875 Mk II was an updated version of the original Bond 875 three-wheeler, produced in the late 1960s by Bond Cars Ltd. It continued to feature the rear-mounted 875cc engine sourced from the Hillman Imp, which provided the car with a surprising amount of performance given its lightweight fiberglass body and minimalistic design. The engine produced around 34 horsepower, enabling the car to reach speeds of up to 80 mph, which was impressive for a microcar at the time.

The Mk II introduced several refinements over the original model, including improved interior trim, better seating, and slight revisions to the dashboard layout to enhance comfort and usability. Externally, changes were subtle but included updated lighting and minor tweaks to the bodywork for a more polished appearance. Despite being a three-wheeler, the 875 Mk II handled well due to its low center of gravity and rear-engine layout, and it remained popular among drivers looking for affordable, practical motoring.

The Bond 875 Mk II held a unique position in the British motoring landscape, offering a mix of sports car spirit and economical operation. It benefited from favorable tax and licensing rules and was seen as a more performance-oriented alternative to other three-wheelers like the Reliant Regal. Today, it is a rare and collectible vehicle, valued for its distinctive style and place in British automotive history.
