Description

The Buick 8-90 Sedan was one of the most luxurious and prestigious offerings from Buick during the late 1920s. Introduced as part of the 1929 lineup, the 8-90 represented the pinnacle of Buick’s engineering and design before the onset of the Great Depression. It was built on an extended wheelbase and equipped with a powerful straight-eight engine, emphasizing both performance and passenger comfort.

At the heart of the 8-90 Sedan was a 344 cubic inch (5.6-liter) inline-eight engine, which delivered strong power and smooth acceleration. This engine continued Buick’s tradition of overhead valve (OHV) technology, allowing for more efficient combustion and improved reliability. The vehicle was paired with a three-speed manual transmission and featured advanced mechanical components for its time, such as four-wheel mechanical brakes and a robust chassis for improved ride quality.

The sedan body style provided a fully enclosed cabin, offering a sense of privacy and protection from the elements. It was designed to accommodate five to seven passengers comfortably, with an emphasis on legroom and interior refinement. The long wheelbase contributed to a smooth ride, while the tall roofline and wide doors made ingress and egress more convenient.

Inside, the Buick 8-90 Sedan featured plush upholstery, often in mohair or broadcloth, along with polished wood trim and a well-appointed dashboard. Amenities such as a rear footrest, interior lighting, and high-quality door hardware reflected the car’s upscale nature. Externally, the car was distinguished by its elegant, conservative styling, with sweeping fenders, a tall vertical grille, and wire-spoke or wooden artillery wheels.

As the flagship of the Buick line, the 8-90 Sedan was aimed at customers who wanted the performance and comfort of a luxury car without stepping into the higher price ranges of Cadillac or other top-tier marques. Today, the 8-90 Sedan is a prized example of late-1920s American craftsmanship, admired for its balance of engineering excellence and refined design.
