Description
The Gilbern Genie was a British sports car produced by Gilbern between 1966 and 1969. It was a larger and more powerful successor to the earlier GT models, aimed at a more upmarket audience. The Genie featured a fiberglass body and a steel tubular chassis, continuing Gilbern’s tradition of using lightweight construction for better performance and handling.
The Genie was powered by a choice of two engines: a 2.5-liter or a 3.0-liter Ford Essex V6 engine, the latter offering around 138 horsepower. This allowed the Genie to achieve impressive acceleration and top speeds for its time, with the 3.0-liter version being particularly popular among driving enthusiasts. The car also featured independent front suspension, a live rear axle, and disc brakes at the front, offering solid driving dynamics and comfort.
Despite its strong performance and stylish design, the Genie remained a low-production, niche vehicle. Fewer than 200 units were produced, making it a rare collector’s item today. The Genie helped establish Gilbern’s reputation as a builder of unique, high-performance cars, though the company itself would face financial challenges in the coming years.
