Description
The Intermeccanica Indra Fastback was a luxury sports car produced by the Italian-Canadian manufacturer Intermeccanica between 1971 and 1974. Designed by Franco Scaglione, the Indra was Intermeccanica’s most ambitious model, aimed at the high-end grand touring market. The car was powered by American V8 engines, typically sourced from General Motors, such as the 5.4-liter (327 cubic inch) Chevrolet V8, which provided strong performance with outputs of around 300 horsepower.
The Indra Fastback had a steel body, making it heavier than earlier Intermeccanica models, but it still retained impressive speed and acceleration. The car featured a sleek, aerodynamic design with a long hood and a fastback roofline, which gave it an aggressive and sporty appearance. The chassis was also more refined, with a de Dion rear suspension setup, contributing to improved handling and ride quality compared to its predecessors.
Intermeccanica produced fewer than 130 units of the Indra in total, with most of them being exported to the United States and Europe. Today, the Intermeccanica Indra Fastback is a rare and collectible car, prized for its combination of Italian design, American power, and exclusivity.
