Description
The Lamborghini 350 GTV was Lamborghini’s first prototype, debuting in 1963 as the precursor to the brand’s successful production models. Created by Ferruccio Lamborghini, a successful tractor manufacturer entering the high-performance sports car market, the 350 GTV was intended to compete with Ferrari and establish Lamborghini’s reputation for luxury and innovation in the automotive world.
The 350 GTV was powered by a 3.5-liter V12 engine designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, capable of producing an impressive 360 horsepower. This powerful engine gave the car a top speed estimated at around 280 km/h (174 mph). Although the engine was not fully operational in the prototype at its debut, its design demonstrated Lamborghini’s commitment to high performance and precision engineering.
The 350 GTV’s design was striking and distinctive, with angular lines, retractable headlights, and an elongated hood, giving it an aggressive yet elegant appearance. Designed by Franco Scaglione, the prototype was unconventional and daring, making a statement that set Lamborghini apart from its competitors. The interior featured luxury elements, with a focus on comfort and sophistication.
While the 350 GTV did not go into direct production, it served as the foundation for the Lamborghini 350 GT, the brand’s first production model. The 350 GTV prototype showcased Lamborghini’s capability and vision, laying the groundwork for the brand’s future in high-performance, luxury sports cars. Today, the 350 GTV is celebrated as a pivotal model in Lamborghini’s history and is prized among collectors for its rarity and historical significance.
