Description
The Peerless GT 2 Litre Phase 2 was an updated version of the original Peerless GT, introduced in 1960 with refinements in styling, performance, and practicality. Developed by Peerless Cars Ltd., the Phase 2 aimed to build on the success of the initial model while addressing some of its limitations, bringing a more polished and competitive product to the market.
The Phase 2 retained the 2.0-liter Triumph TR3 inline-four engine, producing around 100 horsepower. This engine enabled the car to achieve a top speed of approximately 110 mph (177 km/h), with improved acceleration and reliability over the earlier models. Like the original, the Phase 2 featured a tubular steel space frame and a lightweight fiberglass body, contributing to the car’s agile handling and efficiency.
Stylistic updates included a redesigned front grille and subtle changes to the bodywork, giving the car a slightly more modern and refined appearance. The interior was also improved with better-quality materials and a revised dashboard layout, enhancing comfort and usability. The 2+2 seating arrangement remained, making it a practical GT car suitable for both spirited driving and everyday use.
Production of the Peerless GT Phase 2 was cut short due to financial difficulties, and only a small number of these cars were produced before Peerless ceased operations in 1960. However, the improvements in the Phase 2 model made it a noteworthy iteration in the Peerless lineup. Today, the Peerless GT 2 Litre Phase 2 is a rare collector’s item, admired for its unique blend of British engineering, racing heritage, and the promise it showed as a refined version of the original Peerless GT.
